So after reading my new blog on DETOX vs HEALING, a member contacted me to ask about the carnivore diet, which she is on, and feeling AHMAZING. And I've been ruminating on the topic: if your diet is 100% meat and fat, how does your body detox? Should you ever go on a 100% meat diet, if there is an argument against a 100% vegan diet?
Here's my take on it, but would LOVE to hear back from all of you too!
I had a gut test done a couple of years ago, and the doctor told me that I do not have the enzymes in my gut to break down vegetables. Now this explains why I get bloated on salads, and why I am the nut who is scooping up all the fat, and gelatin, after roasting chicken pieces. My body CRAVES meat, fat, broth, and I believe would be quite happy to live off it.
My husband and son, however, favour the vegies. Avoid the fat, only really eat the muscle meat, don't chew on the bones like puppies (or me...). THEY have a gene mutation which means they build up toxins and burn through minerals (MTHFR - COMT).
They don't get bloated on veg.
Some things I know: organ meats and fats REPAIR your liver, kidneys, lymph so that your body will detox better. Does this eliminate the need for veggies?
My feeling is that eating carnivore only for a period would be highly beneficial, but I would always eventually go back to the idea that once your body is healed, it will embrace a wider variety of beneficial fruits and vegies.
What do you all think?
I am doing high fat carnivore at the moment and loving it. No more food cravings, no more wondering what to cook and not thinking about food all day. I feel great have fixed my thyroid that strict keto and paleo wasn’t able to do and body composition has completely changed. I’m not sure when I’ll reintroduce foods at this stage but I am having frequent blood tests to monitor.
I have a friend who had chronic fatigue syndrome for 14 years, it started when she was a teenager. An osteopath cured her cause with some neck treatments, but the carnivore diet gave her her energy back. She couldn't even eat herbs or spices without fatigue and pain returning, only meat, broth and salt. She felt so good on it but has added in a few fruits and vegetables and while not as bad as before, she knows she would be better if she just stuck to meat.
Personally I go through stages. Sometimes all I want is meat, sometimes veggies, sometimes salad. :)
I would completely agree that for a period of time it would be beneficial for healing just like keto etc. depending on your body and condition but I totally believe in always getting back to balance and eating all wholefoods prepared properly. I feel the same goes for vegan/vegetarian but I could be shot for that!
